We buy with our eyes. Beautiful Design Equals Quality.
We as humans are visual people. We judge things by the way something looks. If something looks great, then it has to be a great product or service. This is just how we respond. Think about car manufacturers as to how they build their cars these days. One of the most significant part to the build is the way it looks. Can we give the buyer that luxury car feel in a every day Ford or Chevy? A grocery store places their fruit first as you walk in the door. They want to give you a sense of freshness.
Convenient stores do the same thing. They put various items in front of you, not saying for the sake of quality alone, but to get you to make that purchase, but they use the same factors that we as humans buy with our eyes. Look at our mobile devices. Manufactures are showing you the sleek exterior of the outside, beautiful apps on the display. Trying to entice you to make a purchase.
Websites are the exact same way. You have to provide that beautiful design for your visitors. Now, I am not saying this to make a sale here. I am trying to be honest, and upfront here because this is the human mentality. It's why I have to make sure the websites I produce in my portfolio are popping with a beautiful design and layout, because its how you buy from me, long before we make a deal.
Why am I using this "cleaning company" website? Because I am trying to prove a point. If the office in the background were drab, it would not be as convincing as to the quality care that I bring, or if this was a cleaning company, that they actually perform well.
So, make sure you keep website visually clean. It's hard to get a SEO grade on websites for design, but the best way to know, is check your bounce rates in your analytics. If they are popping off as fast as they arrive, then you might want to consider a re-design. If you find your visitors are hanging around a bit. You are doing good enough in the design aspect.
