User Experience is Important for SEO
User experience is something that shouldn’t be an afterthought when you design your small business web design project. People will appreciate a clean design and it’s possible to have a poor experience at the same time. When the experience is poor it tends to provoke an unhappy response with your visitors. They may not protest but they’ll do the next worse thing that you’d want them to do.
They’ll leave the website. Back in 2015, I talked about how having a clean web design is important for that year and beyond. It still is but the further step to the message when entering into 2017 is that the experience has to match the visuals. This means the buttons, links and videos have to work. People will tolerate at least one or two error pages before they give up on the site. Personally speaking, I’m off of the website at the second error page.
When designing a website my team and I start with the inner pages and contact page first. Then we have to determine which page is the most important to the least important. Pages like: About us, Services, Products, Pricing, Blog, Testimonials and more. Then if the pages had sub-pages we then have to do the same thing there. Example, if you have 5 different services that you’re wanting to offer. We try to use the information from our questionnaire to tell us if there is one service you’d really like to capture more leads for.
The entire experience for the user is then a natural one. If you’re a dentist and you’re really wanting to focus on cosmetic dentistry. It’s not that you don’t do everything else but sometimes you want to focus on your cash cow. There’s no shame in that. So we know that if we also marketing for your website that the design of the website will focus heavily on cosmetic dentistry because these are the clients we are focusing on in the campaign. We know this if I’m looking for cosmetic dentistry the website has to tell me I’m at the right spot.
The user experience has to be flawless with the design otherwise it might well-dressed pig. So when I’m going to call you if I’m on the phone or send you a message if I’m on the computer or tablet. These have to work or else I click the back button to the next user down the list. Which will hurt you in the long run.
Think Like Google
If someone asks you for advice and you direct them to “Point A” for a good solution and you do this ten times over. You learn later that “Point A” provide a really bad experience. What will you do now when someone asks for the same advice? You stop recommending “Point A.” Generally, your credibility is on the line for one. Because if people learn that you’re giving out bad advice, no one is going to want to deal with you and you know it. Google operates the same way. The moment they learn that they are providing a website that isn’t a good experience or good design they will de-rank your website from the search results. They will not remove you but you’ll lose first-page ranking results.
