User Experience is Important for SEO

clean web designUser experience is something that shouldn’t be an afterthought when you design your small business web design project.  People will appreciate a clean design and it’s possible to have a poor experience at the same time.  When the experience is poor it tends to provoke an unhappy response with your visitors.  They may not protest but they’ll do the next worse thing that you’d want them to do.

They’ll leave the website.  Back in 2015, I talked about how having a clean web design is important for that year and beyond.  It still is but the further step to the message when entering into 2017 is that the experience has to match the visuals.  This means the buttons, links and videos have to work.  People will tolerate at least one or two error pages before they give up on the site.  Personally speaking, I’m off of the website at the second error page.

When designing a website my team and I start with the inner pages and contact page first.  Then we have to determine which page is the most important to the least important.  Pages like: About us, Services, Products, Pricing, Blog, Testimonials and more.   Then if the pages had sub-pages we then have to do the same thing there.  Example, if you have 5 different services that you’re wanting to offer.  We try to use the information from our questionnaire to tell us if there is one service you’d really like to capture more leads for.

The entire experience for the user is then a natural one.  If you’re a dentist and you’re really wanting to focus on cosmetic dentistry.  It’s not that you don’t do everything else but sometimes you want to focus on your cash cow.  There’s no shame in that.  So we know that if we also marketing for your website that the design of the website will focus heavily on cosmetic dentistry because these are the clients we are focusing on in the campaign.  We know this if I’m looking for cosmetic dentistry the website has to tell me I’m at the right spot.

The user experience has to be flawless with the design otherwise it might well-dressed pig.  So when I’m going to call you if I’m on the phone or send you a message if I’m on the computer or tablet.  These have to work or else I click the back button to the next user down the list.  Which will hurt you in the long run.

Think Like Google

If someone asks you for advice and you direct them to “Point A” for a good solution and you do this ten times over.  You learn later that “Point A” provide a really bad experience.  What will you do now when someone asks for the same advice?  You stop recommending “Point A.”  Generally, your credibility is on the line for one.  Because if people learn that you’re giving out bad advice, no one is going to want to deal with you and you know it.  Google operates the same way.  The moment they learn that they are providing a website that isn’t a good experience or good design they will de-rank your website from the search results.  They will not remove you but you’ll lose first-page ranking results.

Personal Branding is the Secret Weapon for 2017

Personal branding is really taking off as a way to get the word out.  Because it’s a face to the name.  A lot of big names have been doing this well.  If you think about Steve Jobs or Bill Gates immediately you think of tech giants.  Yet, this isn’t the personal branding I’m referring to.  This is about selling you the entrepreneur.  Who are you, and why we should care who you are?  When you think of branding you’ll easily assume I have to put my logo all over the internet to get noticed.  People are into people.  You’ll always get a connection with a person but a business is still just a business.

When I make deals with a client whether it’s in person or through a conference video call.  It makes the service more tangible.  Because now they know they are doing business with David Morgan the owner of Zion Port.  My business is just a formality.  When you do personal branding you’re building trust.  Not with Google or any search engine but with the person you’re doing business with.

We think of business as being an agent of an automated call system.  You call into the bank for a question, and the first thing you get is a computer.  What is the one thing you want, to talk to a real person?  We understand business is the business.  The barebones metric is that we want the person.

This isn’t about personal branding just so you can sell.  We get to know who you are and because of that it’s easier for your clients and new clients to want to do business with you.  In 2017 there will be a wave of personal branding and its important you’re in the mix.

Secret Google Search Tips for First Page Results

google search tipsBeing in the Search Engine marketing industry you get a person that want’s to cut corners.  I don’t mind providing free information.  I can share with you how we do a good job and honestly, anyone can do SEO.  You don’t have to pay an agency and it seems like I’m trying to take the food out of my mouth but that’s not the case.  Just being factual.  Zion Port is the best seo company that money can buy and anyone can do what we do.  There are a few advanced things that you can do, but there are basic tactics that will take you a little bit further.

Before I go into that let’s talk about why people pay for an SEO agency.  It’s called “time-consuming.”  SEO takes a great deal of time.  To write a proper article here’s what I do.  I have to take the time to research what’s the trending topic.  What’s the best keyword to focus on?  Even in this article, I had to ponder on the three tips.  Why I think they are important and more.  That is essentially an hour of time.  Once I’m done with this article I have to start marketing it.  It will take another hour of time.  That’s just this article.  I have one more article to do.  So, rinse and repeat the process.  It’s a four-hour process.  Even if your work your own business.  You don’t need two-four extra hours of work to take you from your day.  It’s where an agency comes into place.  Because there is so much more that has to be done just to top the day off.  I always say when it comes to doing SEO a person don’t have time to do two jobs.

Here is a crucial Google Search tip that will help your search engine results.  I had to go over the clients for the past year and I realized what seemed to be trending with the clients that we come across.  So, there are at least 10 things that I found and I wanted to address at least one of them today.

Website Load Speed

This is a silent killer of websites.  Google will rank the faster relevant sites first.  Because Google wants to be fast.  Think about it this way.  It takes 1 second to search and 1 second to load the results.  How fast do you want the website load?  1 second.  There have been many reports of demoted websites because of website speeds.  Here’s the thing.  Let’s assume you have a competitor that’s identically optimized in keywords and everything with your website.  Except your competitor would take me 1.1 seconds to load the website and your website loads at 1.5 seconds.  Google will put your competitor above you for that very reason.

That seems a bit extreme but a slow website provides a poor experience.  I can provide stats here but I’m not going to.  I will say this what is to be known is you have 3  – 5 seconds to capture your visitors with your message.  If 3 of those seconds are with them loading your website this means now you have 2 seconds with your message.  Now here’s how it works with Google also.  If you have Google analytics on your website which you should there is a timer that starts counting the moment the page is fully loaded.  So once 3 seconds is done and a person backs out of the website by the 4th second.  Google will register this as people being on your website for 1 second and then back out.

So not only is your website slow and giving me all this time to wait to load I might wait for the website to simply load just so I can back out anyways.  If this happens enough times Google will de-rank your website for providing a poor experience to people.

The way we at Zion Port like to design a website is to compress everything.  Our mind-frame is kind of an old school one.  Which is treat every visitor as if they are on a 56k dial-up modem or better yet that they are on a 3G network.  This means I have to assume you’re on a cellular connection.  When I think of it that way if I can get the website load nearly instantly even as if it were on a very slow network that it will please everyone.

Another thing that might make the website slow is where you have it hosted.  This might make things out of reach or too technical but the physical location of your website is actually a factor.  Because we don’t know where you or your visitors are having to retrieve your website data.  There are a few ways to approach this.

When we work with our clients on a web design and management service one thing we ask is, “Who is your audience and where are they located?”  Because we work with to web hosting services at any given time when we host websites.  I’ll share one of them at the end.  Basically, why this matter because if we’re working with a client in Australia then we will host the website on an Aussie server.  If we are working with a client in the UK we’ll host the site over there.  And this matters tremendously.  Of course, if you’re in the USA and so is your audience then we’ll host it here.  For a more technical, If you have a global audience, we host the website in the USA but we have approximately 15 virtual servers scattered across the world and the main purpose of that is to pull a snapshot of the website to distribute your website to all of those servers, but your audience only pulls from the closest server.  It’s flawless and it works.

So let me end on a happier note on providing solutions.

For hosting we recommend “http://bit.ly/2hn8Gyh;

And to check your website speed go to “Pingdom: Website Speed Test.”  This is an important free tool.  If you work with Zion Port on your SEO project we’d perform a speed test here also.  Keeping us on the same page.  If you don’t work with Zion Port then make sure which ever agency you go with addresses the issues on the speed test.  If they avoid this topic then that should be a red flag for you.

Stay tuned I have more Google Search tips to share with you.

Local SEO and What Does it Mean for Your Business?

local seo services for small businessLocal SEO is about getting more exposure for your business.  The more people that find you, the more chances you have to score a new client.  Zion Port provides the best local seo services for small business in Milwaukee, WI.  To put it plainly, we dominate the search engines on your behalf.  Not to plug the business here but to explain why such a service is important.  People are looking for your product or service online right now.  Google is only going to deliver who they think should be listed first.  Whenever a person is looking for your product or service they will go with one of the first three websites provided by Google.  A small handful venture further down but if you’re not in the top tier positions of the search engines you’re not going to get a visitor.  If you don’t get a visitor, you are losing out on a potential client.

I am doing Local SEO for a landscape contractor.  When I asked him about the cost of a service.  He told me his smallest project will cost a client $1,500.  It’s a weekend challenge.  He spends $200 for supplies.  He spends $300 to have a friend help him.  How much does the man pocket for himself?  You’ve guessed correctly, $1,000.  Just from a weekend job.  So I put the question to him if you’re not getting the call what else aren’t you getting?  It registered for him that he’s not getting $1,000 either.

He started to realize what Local SEO meant for his business.  It means he can make $1,000 a week.  Giving him $4,000 a month.  So how much does Zion Port charge for our Local SEO services?  We literally start with a very low offer that we call our introductory price of $800/mo.  So, let’s go back to our landscaper.  After he pays his friend and Zion Port, he is making $3,200 each month.   What does Local SEO mean for his business?  It means $3,000 profits each month.

It’s more than just profits.  By the fourth month, he started to think differently.  He found himself being a boss.  He’s able to charge twice the amount for the same level of work.  He’s able to save more money because of the kinds of clients he gets, he’s able to perfect a process.  So he’s able to buy a lot of the materials in bulk for less.  Giving him the opportunity to hire two more helpers.  This allowed him to work on the business and not in it.

While his men are working on one project, my client, and his wife are at home calling the leads that our services are providing for him, he’s out giving an estimate or he’s on the dashboard that we provide responding to reviews.  What does Local SEO mean for him?  It means he can think and act like a business.  He’s not going to stop paying us because there’s a fear of the leads will stop coming in.  Whereas before, he had no idea where the next client was going to come from.  So what we do is provide him peace of mind.

Not every person I meet can see the value in Local SEO.  Even when I share this.  I met an event planner and she told me a sobering tale.  She in a sense sold herself as to why she needed my services.  She shared this, she had a friend who wanted her services and went to Google to find her.  The friend goes on to say, “I almost went with a competitor because I couldn’t find you on Google.”  I posed the question, how many people are looking for you right now and following through with your competitor because you’re not there?  Sadly she didn’t feel that there was a reason to have Local SEO that it wouldn’t help her business.  Even though her own story would prove differently.

At the end of the day, for every client that isn’t doing business with you, whatever you think you can earn per client your competition is going to get that money.  What can Local SEO do for your business?

Quality Content is Still Trending in 2017

quality content writingWe are one month away from experiencing a brand new year. With a new year brings new challenges. In the internet marketing industry, there are things that are worth noting to be sure we’re ready for the latest marketing trends of the new year. The way we’re able to follow this is because we are seeing the shifts in the industry and where they are going. Let’s go over a few of them.

One of the major trends that aren’t changing but in fact is becoming just as stable is quality content. Is this really a trend? It’s no different than saying affordable search engine optimization services is trending.  We’ve been preaching quality content since 2011. The reason why this is still being talked about is because it’s not being done like it should.

Have you ever been on ten different sites and you’re getting a lot of the same information just worded differently? The reason why many sites don’t rank well is because of the lack of quality control. More importantly, the links that are pointing to the website are poorly done.

An example of how poor content is done. Blog A: “Water is good for losing weight.” Blog B: “Lose weight drinking water.”

What’s wrong with this? It’s the same message. If I wanted to know the benefits of water from two sources and this is what I get. I’m not getting anything new.

There’s a difference in sharing your take on the topic and simply blending an already written article. It’s one thing to speak the same thing. Which is nice, because there is validation in Person A and Person B are saying “Drinking water shrinks the belly.”

How does this go wrong?

There are tools out there that allow people to skip the research process of content writing. These tools are known as scrapers. Essentially the way it works is the tool goes to blog A and copies the first paragraph. Goes to blog B and copies the first paragraph and does the same on blog C. Then it will paste those paragraphs in an article so it looks like unique.

Is there a solution? You can have more dense content. I mean you could write a 1,000-word article and only 50 words are valuable. It’s a tough thing to do to write engaging quality content.

When Zion Port write articles we are researching on the topic. What we want to know is what’s the trending problem at the time that we’d like to address. Going back to the “lose weight” topic. We know losing weight isn’t what they’re just looking for. A person might be looking for a fast way to do it or an easy way. Perhaps a combination of them both.

We might write an article that is titled, “Drink water is a fast and easy way to lose weight.” We aren’t going to copy what Blog A and Blog B says. We might be inspired by some of that content but we’re not copying a paragraph to put down in our article. Essentially if I can sum it up we’re researching the topic and sharing with you what we’ve learned yet to keep it relevant and accurate as much as possible.

Let’s keep our content for 2017 in very good quality.

*disclaimer* In the article is written about lose weight tips.  It’s used for explanations only and I can’t validate if that is true.  So keep in mind it’s only there to share the points of the article.  I can say that water is essential for life but anything beyond that it’s about making points to the topic.
